Research on Lycopene ....

Lycopene is a phytochemical that gives tomatoes their red color and appears to offer potential health benefits. It is used in several discomforts throughout India. Some researches were done successfully with the appropriate results. Research into dietary Lycopene suggests it may lower risk of:
  1. Heart attack - A study of more than 1,300 European men suggested that those consuming the most lycopene from foods had about half the risk of heart attack as men who consumed less.

  2. Prostate cancer - A 5-year study of 48,000 men found that those eating 10 servings a week of cooked tomato products had the lowest risk of prostate cancer. Their risk was one-third that of men eating less than two servings a week.

  3. Years of research have confirmed the correlation of fruit and vegetable consumption and decreased cancer risks. Tomato-based products are clearly a part of our diets: many salads, pizzas, spaghetti sauces, and even ketchup are rich in tomatoes.

  4. Other studies suggest that lycopene may play a role in reducing the risk of other cancers, including colon, rectal and breast cancers.

Lycopene research will likely continue. However, because numerous studies have concluded for years that the correlation of tomato consumption and decreased cancer risk is significant, there is reason enough to include some tomato-based products in your diet on a regular basis.
